BIPEC Releases Legislative Scorecard; Names Rep. Hood Business & Jobs Champion

The Business and Industry Political Education Committee released its Legislator Business and Jobs Report Card Monday.

Legislation for Winston County Medical Center Awaiting Signature of Governor Bryant

House Bill 583 (HB583) authored by Representative Joey Hood (R-Ackerman) has passed the Senate and is now awaiting the signature of Governor Phil Bryant. Enactment of this measure will allow Winston County Medical Center to forego the certificate of need (CON) process to be able to rebuild as quickly as possible.

Rep. Joey Hood Announces Re-Election Campaign for District 35

ACKERMAN, Mississippi- State Representative Joey Hood (R-35) will seek reelection for House District 35 in the upcoming August 4th Republican Primary.

Hood, R-Ackerman, was elected to the Legislature in 2011 and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Banking and Financial Services House Committee.

He also serves on the Apportionment and Elections, Energy, Judiciary B, Judiciary En Banc, Public Health and Human Services and Public Utilities committees.

"It has been a true honor and a pleasure to serve my friends and neighbors of District 35 over the last 4 years," he said.

“Opposing Obamacare, balancing the budget every year, voting for personal and small business tax cuts and against gas and Internet tax increases all while making a job creation a priority are a few of the things I’m proud to have accomplished during my Freshman term” Hood said.

"I humbly ask the citizens of District 35 to again entrust me with your vote in the August 4th Republican Primary so that I may continue representing our Conservative Values and serving as your voice in Jackson as I work to make our district a better place to live, work and raise a family."

During the 2015 session House Speaker Philip Gunn said, “Representative Hood is an effective, steadfast leader. I appreciate his leadership on behalf of District 35 and look forward to assisting him in addressing issues in the future.”

Hood was raised in Choctaw County. He is married to the former Cynthia Oswalt and they have two sons, Jonah and Owen. They reside in Ackerman and are members of Enon Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Hood is a graduate of Mississippi State University with Bachelors Degrees in History and Political Science and Mississippi College School of Law with a Doctorate of Jurisprudence.

He is a self-employed attorney in Ackerman.
