Legislation for Winston County Medical Center Awaiting Signature of Governor Bryant

JACKSON, Miss.—House Bill 583 (HB583) authored by Representative Joey Hood (R-Ackerman) has passed the Senate and is now awaiting the signature of Governor Phil Bryant. Enactment of this measure will allow Winston County Medical Center to forego the certificate of need (CON) process to be able to rebuild as quickly as possible. “By not having to go through the certificate of need process, the medical center will be able to save roughly $200,000 and avoid a time consuming process that would have delayed construction,” said Representative Hood. “I am grateful to Speaker Gunn’s office, my colleagues in the House of Representatives and the Senate for their assistance on this bill to ensure the healthcare needs of the citizens of Winston County and the surrounding areas are met.”

“Representative Hood was an effective, steadfast supporter of the Winston County recovery effort throughout the 2015 Legislative Session,” said Speaker of the House Philip Gunn. “I appreciate his leadership on behalf of Winston County and look forward to assisting him in addressing issues in the future.”
